HistoFest is a celebration of African and Diaspora African cultures through their historical dimensions, reflecting on Africa's past, experiences, and contributions from antiquity to the present. It seeks to showcase the great pre-colonial kingdoms and empires of Africa, the religious traditions of the African Diaspora, and cultural artifacts, relics, and other expressions of heritage spanning the era of slavery to the present.
Given the bewildering diversity of the African continent — with its mosaic of ethnicities, languages, religions, and cultures — and the multiple, overlapping diasporas that have emerged from Africa over the centuries, HistoFest does not purport to be all-encompassing or to capture every aspect of the historical evolution and cultural experiences of Africans and Diaspora Africans. Rather, it offers a curated window into selected histories, traditions, achievements, and cultural expressions that illuminate the richness and complexity of Africa and the people of African descent throughout the Diaspora.

The streets
come alive.
The Cavalcade of Souls begins. Families line the streets of downtown Phoenix as historical figures emerge from seven eras of Black American history. Children see themselves in the parade for the first time. Fifty organizations march together under one banner.

The festival
opens its doors.
One hundred Black-owned vendors fill the Marketplace. Students perform on stage. Living history demonstrations bring each era to life. Food, art, music, and education converge in a single afternoon that celebrates everything we are.

The Pioneer Awards honor Phoenix's visionary leaders before 10,000 witnesses. Stories of sacrifice fill the main stage. The closing ceremony ends with a promise: we will return every February, and history will come alive again.

For more than three decades, Fatimah Halim helped produce many of Phoenix's most celebrated civic and cultural events — building a legacy of bringing communities together through shared experience, joy, and purpose.
